- Monthly Networking Luncheons
Called 'networking' luncheons for a reason, these meetings were created to bring together members of the Chattanooga community in an effort to collaborate, discuss, and create relationships that make our work stronger and our service more inclusive. Free and open to the public, the La Paz luncheons are a great opportunity to become involved and engaged in the work within the diverse Latino community and to become aware of pressing issues facing that population. They are held the third Monday of every month.
*The next luncheon will be on Monday, March 15, at noon. As a quarterly fundraiser luncheon, there will be a $10 charge for lunch. Email lcook@lapazchattanooga.org to save your seat! Catered by Mi Tierra. Held at the St. Andrews Center (1918 Union Ave/Chatt, TN/ 37404).
Thanks to this month's sponsor, CARTA!

- Mini-Missions with local Latino families
You don't have to travel thousands of miles away to serve. In fact, we've found that it can be even more powerful to offer what you can to those in need right at your doorstep. Please contact Stacy Johnson for more information on participating in a local, mini-mission experience in Chattanooga. Check out photos from a previous Mini-Mission.
- Sangria on the Southside
In its second year, Sangria is an intimate, culturally-packed evening event with world-renown flamenco dancers, live music, fresh sangria and Spanish-flavored tapas -- the perfect taste of a very diverse Latino culture. The event will take place on Friday, June 4, from 7 to 10pm at The Church on Main Street. Check out photos from last year's first annual event!
- La Feria Hispana
La Feria is a community-wide, family-friendly festival celebrating Latin American culture by promoting awareness and appreciation through Latin music, art, dance and food. La Feria will take place on Sunday, June 6, from 11am to 4pm at the First Tennessee Pavilion as a part of the Chattanooga Market. Take a look at photos from 2009!
- Private and Group Spanish lessons with Julie Hawbaker
Julie is a college graduate of the University of Alabama with a B.A. in Latin American Studies. Her degree included studying Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese. During her study, she participated in a language exchange program in Puerto Rico. After completing her bachelors, she lived in Brazil for six months and Puerto Rico for two months. She has also traveled to the Dominican Republic, Argentina and Chile. She recently received her certification to teach English as a Foreign Language and has served as a private tutor for Spanish and English.
She will be offering private and group lessons for Beginning and Intermediate Spanish, as well as a converation hour.
- Culture and Language Exchange
In an informal setting and conversationally-based, spend an hour talking with a native speaker in our version of Intercambio. If interested in practicing your English/Spanish and getting to know someone from a different culture, be a part of this four-week opportunity! We will begin Intercambio this spring.
*If you are interested in sponsorship and/or participation in a La Paz program, please contact Laurie Cook.
